Which trees grow best, when the weather is getting warmer?
For some years now, the weather has been changing a lot.
Another word for it is: climate change.
- It is getting warmer and warmer.
- Sometimes it rains little, sometimes it rains a lot.
Too much heat is not good for many trees.
The trees get sick and die.
That's why we want to find out:
- Which trees in the forest grow best when the weather gets warmer and warmer?
We have found out:
Trees that cope well with heat and drought are, for example:
- Sessile oak
- hornbeam
- Douglas fir
- sycamore maple
- service tree
- European hazel
These tree species are more resistant to the effects of climate change and can grow better in warmer and drier conditions.
In addition, a forest is healthier if it consists of different tree species. This is called a mixed forest.
Forests should therefore be converted into mixed forests.
- This requires new technologies and well-trained people.
- Conversion costs a lot of money and many forest owners need help from the state.
- It is important that all measures fit together well and that there are clear goals.
In standard language, the project is called: Near-natural forest conversion in times of climate change
